Unexpected Problems

There were particular challenges that I expected to encounter on a farm. I thought that the early mornings, hard manual labour, solitude and variable weather would be occupying my thoughts, but the issues have been way more weird and specific:

1. I milk around 30 goats every morning and there is one baby goat who still lives with the nannies. Her name is Tiny Tina. All the nanny goats run into the milking stalls and somehow Tina always sneaks into a stall with one of the bigger goats and eats half of her food. I've given up chasing the little shit back into the pen, it just isn't worth it. But I really feel like she gets the better of me EVERY DAY.
Every.
Day.

2. Marrows. Do I really need to elaborate here? It's still courgette season and we are running out of ideas. Stuffed courgette, ratatouille, courgette pasta, baked marrow, roasted marrow, steamed marrow…

3. Small boys breaking into my caravan.

4. Whisking the plain soft cheese after the garlic soft cheese and contaminating it with garlic by mistake. Also not licking my fingers/the spoon/the bowl/my sleeve/the table every time a blob of cheese escapes is a constant struggle.

5. And of course, the new nanny goats. They cant cope with going up a ramp so we are doing a lot of herding/persuading at milking time. My biggest problem is when 2 full grown goats end up in the same stall, with one hanging its butt over the bar and screaming and kicking if I try to milk it. I'm sure they will get the hang of it soon.

New feeding method to prevent greedy goats suffocating each other. It didnt work

In other news, it was my birthday on the 7th. I am now the grand old age of 26, and my family (mum, dad, Marianne and Josh) came to visit the farm and we went to Cheddar for the day. I was super excited to see them! On Sunday I went for lunch with Charles, Lou, Daisy, Abbie and Helena which was SO nice. And I have been lucky enough to see them all again this weekend for Louise's birthday. Sorry, enough about my social life. More farm updates soon!
