Snacks, Chicks, Ar-mud-geddon

Hello friends. I haven't written anything for a while, I've been busy cleaning chicken houses, feeding animals, mopping the abattoir, eating vast quantities of bread (and other carbs), and doing a host of other jobs around the farm. So here is a little update:

Mum, dad, Marianne and Josh came to visit and we stayed in Beer for a few days. It was so nice to hang out and rest with them, not to mention visiting all our fav places. And in case you wondering, yes they did bring me snacks, they absolutely excelled themselves ❤❤❤

I spent Thursday morning helping Esme do some maths and practice riding her bike which was a welcome break from physical work. And then we decided to channel our darker energies and drew pictures of ghosts and ghouls and witches. Esme was very firm about drawing a person being killed or eaten in every picture

Last saturday I went to see Sam Lee perform in Lyme, he was excellent! If you like folk I totally recommend his album Old Wow. Unfortunately we were called back to the farm during the last song because Rieke had badly cut her finger and had to go to A&E. She is fine and her finger is healing but she can't do much with her hand, which is frustrating for her because she really wants to do her share of the jobs

The forest school has started up on Wednesdays and the kids are having the best time, learning about the living world and exploring and creating. They have also been super lucky with the weather!

The older chicks have started doing a thing where they all sit on each other when the house starts getting dirty. Sadly this has resulted in 3 deaths and we are very much on our guard now to make sure we clean it before they begin suffocating one another. One chick was looking rough so we put it in a box with food and bedding to recover. I went to check on it later in the day and it seemed much better so I decided to return it to the rest of the flock, but first I put it in the pen with the baby chicks so that it could have a drink from their drinker. And the baby chicks gathered around it like "LOOK AT THIS GIANT FREAK! LET'S MAKE IT OUR GOD."

Thorge shaved off his moustache today. It was big news. We don't leave the farm very often

Oh yeah, and there was a storm. So the mud has evolved into Super Mud

Finally, so many things have broken! Something went wrong with the car and Laura and Esme got stranded at the supermarket. Jon's head torch has mysteriously died (head torches are a big deal when you have no outside lights). The grinder broke so the chicks were dangerously close to running out of food, but Jon managed to fix it. Hoping nothing else breaks, it always has so many repercussions!

Thanks for reading folks. It feels like spring is maybe beginning to raise its head… but then again February might surprise us.
